Do you want a Write Hope t-shirt (and some other gorgeous goodies)?

Nozomi reporting here, I’m coming to you from the frontlines of Luna’s creativeness. If you’ve ever wondered what creativeness looks like, in Luna’s case it's like she picked up all her art supplies and threw them in the air… it’s an obstacle course of paper, scrap sketches, fabrics, ribbon and glitter. I love the glitter!

About a month ago Marieke asked her if she’d make a t-shirt for Write Hope, a few designs later and we have:

It’s pretty right? *loves*

Instead of printed t-shirts these are embroidered. Long lasting, eye-popping and gorgeous! Not just that, but you yourself can decide how you want yours to look…

See I love pink (much to Luna’s irritation) so I’d pick a pink t-shirt with hot pink embroidery… or maybe sparkling silver? We have a long list of different t-shirt colors and embroidery thread to choose from.

Luna is willing to design and manufacture a Write Hope Pack, which would consist of a t-shirt, 2 bookmarks (one-sided design) and a keyring. The cost of these packs would be around $30 (unfortunately postage & packing eats up almost a third of that).

In order for us to proceed, we would need sufficient interest. So, would you want one?

Day 11 - Item 12

From YA author Margie Gelbwasser: a critique of your query and first 20 pages (MG/YA).

In Margie's own words: "I always wanted to be a writer, and when I was seven I got my shot. My second grade teacher held a writing contest. I wrote this ten page story about a girl who was kidnapped, taken to an island, and tied to a coconut tree. She found a way to use the coconuts as weapons and escaped, against all odds! I didn’t win. The girl who won wrote about a talking strawberry, and her story was only 3 pages long. Talk about being robbed!

I recovered, continued to write, edited my high school and college literary magazines, wrote an adult multi-generational novel about a Russian-Jewish family, scrapped the novel but realized the part about the teens really came alive. So I started writing a YA book about a Russian-Jewish girl with an alcoholic mom that is now called INCONVENIENT. I then found an agent, and in a little less than two years landed a two-book deal with Flux. During all this, I got married and had an amazing son who I consider my good luck charm.

These days, I’m home with my son and between our music, library, Mommy and Me classes, and truck and lawn mower spottings, I’m working on my second novel. Like with the first book, there’s some Russian stuff and some Jersey stuff (Jersey makes for great settings—take that all of you who think Jersey is a smelly state and nothing more) but it’s really dark, edgy, and the culture is more background/setting than center stage."

Day 11 - Item 11

From YA author Jennifer L. Armentrout: a signed ARC of Half-Blood.

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure-bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

You select the tag style, and then customize it, by choosing the chain length, the stone color, the inscription, and whether or not you want the tag hammered (to create an antiqued/edgy look)."

Day 11 - Item 8

From author Tahereh Mafi: an ARC of Shatter Me.

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old-girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Not much has changed since then, except she’s added motherhood to the mix and enjoys penning her own novels as much as reading everybody else’s. Day 11 - Item 5

From authors Natalie Zaman and Charlotte Bennardo: a critique of your synopsis and first three chapters (YA fantasy or paranormal) send within 6 months, 12 pt font, double spaced.

To go with that an awesome collection of SIRENZ swag: a set of Sirenz buttons, a music CD from the band that is doing the music for our book trailer, and phone charms (a tie-in to the book) with Japanese symbols of love, luck and protection!

Sirenz (Flux, June 2011): Bickering frenemies Meg and Shar are doing some serious damage at a midnight sample sale when they find themselves arguing over a pair of shoes—with fatal consequences. One innocent bystander later, the girls are suddenly at the mercy of Hades—the god of the underworld—himself. To make them atone for what they’ve done, Hades forces the teens to become special-assignment Sirens, luring to the Underworld any individual whose unholy contract is up.

But just because they have an otherworldly part-time job now doesn’t mean Meg and Shar can ignore life’s drudgeries (work) or pleasures (fashion!). Finding that delicate balance between their old and new responsibilities turns out to be harder than they expected, especially when an entire pantheon of Greek deities decides to get involved. Then there’s the matter of the fine print in their contracts...

Day 11 - Item 4

From author Stephanie Burgis: an original short story set in the Kat, Incorrigible timeline.

Here's Stephanie's description:
"I'll write it for you and send you a personal copy (either electronic or on paper, whichever you prefer). After it's finished, it'll be yours alone for at least a full month, and afterwards, when I do put it up on my website, I'll include a notice that the story is dedicated to you."

In Kat Stephenson's Regency England, magic is the greatest scandal of all...

Twelve-year-old Kat Stephenson is in trouble again. Her father may be a respectable vicar, but her mother was a notorious witch, and now Kat herself is the target of an ancient and secretive magical order.

Any proper young lady would swoon at the very idea of it.

Luckily, Kat Stephenson is no ordinary young lady.

Stephanie Burgis grew up in America but fell in love with Regency England when she was seven. Now she lives in Wales, and her trilogy of Regency fantasy adventures for kids starts with KAT, INCORRIGIBLE, published by Atheneum Books on April 5. To find out more, please visit her website.

Day 11 - Item 3

From the awesome people at Harlequin TEEN: a signed set of Julie Kagawa's NYT Bestselling series The Iron Fey - so a signed copy each of The Iron King, The Iron Daughter, and The Iron Queen, as well as an Iron Fey poster. And also, a query critique by Harlequin TEEN intern Amanda Sun.

MEGHAN CHASE HAS A SECRET DESTINY – ONE SHE COULD NEVER HAVE IMAGINED.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school... or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth—that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

HALF SUMMER FAERY PRINCESS, HALF HUMAN. MEGHAN HAS NEVER FIT IN ANYWHERE.

Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help.

Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

My name is Meghan Chase.

I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.

This time, there will be no turning back.

Day 11 - Item 2

From author J.A. Sounders: a 50-page critique of anything YA, or adult romance (any genre minus erotica).

We've had some exciting additions from Jessica! She says: if bidding gets to $100, I'll add a query crit. If it gets to $150, I'll crit 75 pages. For $200, I'll do 100 pages. And if we reach $300 I'll do a full crit!

J.A. Souders was born in the heartland with an overactive imagination and an over abundance of curiosity that was always getting her into trouble. She first began writing at the age of 13, when she moved to Florida and not only befriended the monsters under the bed, but created worlds for them to play together.

Because she never grew up, she decided she’d put her imaginary friends to work and started writing. She still lives in the land of sunshine and palm trees with her husband and their two children and is an active member of the RWA, CFRW, and the SCBWI. She is represented by Natalie Fischer.

Day 11 - Item 1

From YA author Arlaina Tibensky: a copy of Gemini Bites signed by Patrick Ryan.

One of the strangest (and funniest) love triangles ever to hit YA fiction, when a pair of twins (one boy, one girl) both fall for the boy who moves in with them…who may or may not be a vampire.

Judy and Kyle Renneker are sixteen-year-old fraternal twins in a rambling family of nine. They have a prickly history with each other and are, at least from Judy's perspective, constantly in fierce competition. Kyle has recently come out of the closet to his family and feels he might never know what it's like to date a guy. Judy, who has a history of pretending to be something she isn't in order to get what she wants, is pretending to be born-again in order to land a boyfriend who heads his own bible study.

When their parents announce that the family is going to be taking in a fellow student for a month so that he can finish the school year before moving away, both Kyle and Judy can't help but sit up and take notice. Garret Johnson, who is taking temporary residence in the newly finished attic, is a young man who moved into town less than a year ago and who is a mysterious, goth loner . . . and claims to be a vampire. He's not an easy person to get to know by any means, but the twins find him (to varying degrees) both strange and alluring.

GEMINI BITES explores what it means to pretend to be something you aren't, what happens when that backfires, and how in-your-face honesty is almost always the best course of action.

A few random facts

None of the items posted today are April Fool's jokes.

Our executive decision still stands, so we tinkered a little with the end dates of today and tomorrow's posts.

We have posts tomorrow.

Or in other words: we have another nine auction items tomorrow. (Ha, see what I did there?)

One of which may or may not be an ARC of Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me.

The above fact may or may not be an April Fool's joke.

Finally we have one special auction item on Sunday, to conclude this auction. *sniff* So keep watching. This should be spectacular.

Over and out.

From author Liz Michalski: a book club in a bag -- up to 10 signed copies of my novel Evenfall in a reusable bag, with mini-bookmarks, links to secret pages on my website, and a box of homemade chocolate cookies.

Cross a Murphy woman and she'll haunt you the rest of your days.

That's what they say in Hartman, Connecticut, where the Murphy women are known for their beauty, willfulness, and disastrous luck with men. No one knows the truth of this saying better than Frank Wildermuth. Fifty years ago, he fell in love with Gert Murphy, but through fate and bad timing wound up married to her sister. He spent the rest of his life quietly regretting his mistake. Now Frank's dead -- but not quite gone—and it's time to do some haunting of his own.

All Andie Murphy ever wanted was to get out of town. But she’s back to settle Evenfall, her Uncle Frank’s estate, where some things never change -- and some things have changed a lot. Aunt Gert, for example, still drives her crazy. On the other hand, Cort, the wide-eyed farmboy she used to babysit, is all grown up -- with a whole new definition for the word sleepover.

But if you're a Murphy woman, love never goes smoothly. As Andie struggles with her feelings, Frank sees a chance for redemption -- one that could cost his niece dearly. They'll both need to decide --

Is true love really everlasting? Is home just an address, or a place you carry in your heart? And if you truly regret your mistakes, can the long-buried dreams of your youth come alive again?

Austin Parker is never going to see his eighteenth birthday. At the rate he’s going, he probably won’t even see the end of the year. But in the short time he has left there’s one thing he can do: He can try to help the people he loves live—even though he never will.

It’s probably hopeless.

But he has to try.

Day 9 - Item 6

From author Sheela Chari: a pre-order of Vanished and a critique of your first three chapters (MG/YA).

Eleven-year-old Neela dreams of being a famous musician, performing for admiring crowds on her traditional Indian stringed instrument. Her particular instrument used to be her grandmother’s—made of warm, rich wood, and intricately carved with a mysterious-looking dragon.

When this special family heirloom vanishes from a local church, Neela is devastated. As she searches for it, strange clues surface: a teakettle ornamented with a familiar-looking dragon, a threatening note, a connection to a famous dead musician, and even a legendary curse.

The clues point all the way to India, where it seems that Neela's instrument has a long history of vanishing and reappearing. If she is able to track it down, will she be able to stop it from disappearing again?

Day 9 - Item 5

From author Christopher Grant: a copy of Teenie.

Teenie, that's what my girls call me. I'm 5 feet and 1/4 inch, 101 lbs, with all my books in my book bag and a pair of waterlogged Timberlands on.

High school freshman Martine (Teenie for short) is a good student, with a bright future ahead of her. She's desperate to be accepted into a prestigious study abroad program in Spain so that she can see what life is like beyond the streets of Brooklyn. She wouldn't mind escaping from her strict (though lovable) parents for awhile either. But when the captain of the basketball team starts to pay attention to her after she's pined away for him for months and Cherise, her best friend, meets a guy on-line, Teenie's mind is on anything but her schoolwork. Teenie's longtime crush isn't what he seemed to be, nor is her best friend's on-line love. Can Teenie get her act together in time to save her friendship with Cherise, save her grade point average so that she can study in Spain, and save herself from a potentially dangerous relationship?

In Vicki's own words: "It will be a handmade crocheted item by a writer for a writer, made with the yarn color of the winner's choice. The mitt involves a shell lace pattern with a ribbed cuff (length of the mitt will be determined by the winner)." The pattern is similar to the mitt in the picture, and will be made from acrylic yarn.

Day 9 - Item 2

From author Pat Schmatz: signed copies of the three current books: Mousestraps, Circle The Truth, and Mrs. Estronsky and the UFO.

Maxie's a cartoonist. Rick's a design genius. Back in grade school, they used to come up with crazy inventions, like mousetraps with a zillion parts. But high school is nothing like child's play. The traps Maxie and Rick encounter now are a lot more complicated – and a lot more dangerous…

~

First a spiral staircase replaces the regular stairs. The new stairs lead to a living room that isn't his, a cat that isn't his either, and a strange old man whose words are cryptic riddles.

Or are they? Rith's never been into religion. But he realizes those words have a spiritual source - and an uncanny ring of truth. Is he just dreaming? Is the old man God? As Rith tries to circle closer to the truth, the line between reality and unreality blurs…

This rhapsody on faith, acceptance, patience and the relationship between "truth" and "reality" is an unusual and valuable addition to the pantheon of literature for youth, particularly since faith is so seldom addressed with such neutrality in books for younger readers.

“But it’s my birthday. That isn’t fair! Why should I get punished for my birthday? If I’m going to be punished, it should be on your birthday!” That’s Jackie Riley’s response when she receives a gift of piano lessons on her twelfth birthday. Her father and brother have moved to Wyoming and forgotten all about Jackie. The house is empty and her mother cries more than any mother should. How could piano lessons do anything but make it all worse? But when Jackie starts her lessons with Mrs. Estronsky, some unexpected doors begin to open. One October night, something comes flying through one of those open doors and leaves Jackie reeling in the middle of a whole new world — a world much bigger than the one she knew before. “Trust your own experience, Jackie,” says Mrs. Estronsky. “It’s the only truth that you’ll ever know.” Jackie tries out this new idea by interacting differently with her family and friends. Nothing changes — and everything changes — all at the same time.

Day 9 - Item 1

From author Debra Driza: a critique of your full manuscript + query. Afterwards - once you've had the time to revise, say - her agent Taylor Martindale will read the full and give her feedback!

Debra Driza lives and writes in Southern California, usually surrounded by Rhodesian Ridgebacks, kids, and her husband--all of them just as messy as she is. She's a member of the group blog GotYA and a die-hard Veronica Mars fan.

MILA 2.0, the first book in her YA sci-fi thriller series, debuts Fall 2012 from Katherine Tegen Books (an imprint of HarperCollins).

Her agent Taylor Martindale also lives and works in Southern California--in fact, Debra is thinking about sending the kids and Ridgebacks to her house for a while. Taylor is an agent with the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency. Her main interest is young adult, but she's also interested in children's picture books, commercial fiction, women's fiction, and multi-cultural fiction.

Day 8 - Item 8

From NYT bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater: a critique. Or perhaps more detailed:

"$50 and under for the winning bid, I'll do a 5 page crit.
$100 and under, one chapter (3000 words).
$250 and under, three chapter critique (9,000 words).
Anything over $500, 15,000 word critique.

$1,000 and over, 20,000 word critique, a signed copy of Shiver, Linger, Lament, and Ballad, and a Linger tank-top."

From Maggie's website: "All of my life decisions have been based around my inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you're a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which I've tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists, musicians, and artists (I've made my living as one of these since I was 22).

I now live an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia, with my charmingly straight-laced husband, two small kids, two neurotic dogs, one criminally insane cat, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

I'm an avid reader, an award-winning colored pencil artist, and play several musical instruments, including the Celtic harp, the piano, and the bagpipes. I also make great cocktail party conversation."
